对于rumor（谣言）我们并不陌生，这里主要谈一谈与其相关的动词搭配。
先说“辟谣”，除了和动词deny搭配外，rumor也可做blast的宾语。Blast原指“炸弹爆炸”，后引申为“猛烈攻击，（希望）破灭”，如：Thecandidateleveled a blast at her opponent.（候选人向她的对手发出攻击）；Prospectsfor peacehave blasted.（和平的前景破灭了。）
“传播（谣言）”可用动词spread，circulate或broadcast；“捏造”谣言则用动词fabricate。在报道中，doctor也指“篡改；捏造”，指用技术手段作假，如：todoctorthe evidence（假造证据）。
另外，汉语中的“八卦”常用“gossip”（流言，谣传）来形容。
